Packing Your Book Box
Packing is a crucial part of your move. An organized, planned packing process will help you start your new life quickly and easily. Brothers Moving & Storage has some important tips to help you create a smooth packing process.
- If you plan to do your packing, start well in advance of moving day by packing the out-of-season items and items not being used daily. This avoids last-minute rushing, which can cause stress and/or cause you to forget other important details.
- Boxes should not exceed 50 lbs.
- A good packing rule: the smaller the box, the heavier the contents can be; thus, the larger the box, the lighter the contents.
- Always have a parts box for screws, bolts, remotes, etc., and label them so they are easy to find at the destination.
- When marking boxes, we suggest you mark the contents and room to be placed at the destination on the top and the side.
- Mark fragile boxes as such.
- Make sure to run tape in both directions perpendicular to the bottom and do the same on top when sealing the box.
- Make sure fragile items are cushioned on top and bottom and wrapped safely.
- Be generous with the cushioning material. NOTE: Less space in a box helps prevent damage.
- Don’t use printed newspaper as wrapping. The ink can transfer onto your belongings.
What to Pack in a Book Box
A book box is the smallest moving box and is mainly used for packing books, magazines, desk drawers, papers, and smaller, heavier items.
Start by placing a piece of paper at the bottom of the box. Place all your books on the edge of the box, alternating bound edges. Use crumpled-up paper to fill in any gaps in the box. Use paper at the top of the box and make sure that you can’t push the box down when finished. If you can push the box in, crumple up some paper to fill in the air. Make sure you tape the top and bottom of all your boxes. The last thing to do is to make sure that you label the box correctly. Label the sides and top of the boxes so the movers know which room they go in at the destination.

Moving is a great time to declutter and get rid of items you no longer need. You can donate books you no longer need to charity, giving others the chance to read great books, too.
